Hello, welcome to The Muddy Rose! We are a small business located in Boise, Id. We specialize in hand made faux wreaths, door hangers, decorative signs, container candles, concrete candles, concrete art pieces and wax melts. Each piece is made with as highest quality material as we can get and a lot of time, research and love is poured into each piece.
A little about me and my company:
The Muddy Rose name really does have special meaning to me. Read on if you are okay with rambling free-write, life story and some cussing. Stay with it, everything is off topic and chaotic but it is also interwined lol.
About me:
When I was young, one of my favorite things to do was play in the mud. Something about it was just awesome. Relaxing. I loved it. No deadlines, worries, fears, just complete joy. Pure innocence.
And then, I grew up. Mud became just mud. Life got hard. Innocence a thing of the past. No more mud. Adulting is bullshit. But... I have not only survived a bunch of horrific things but overcame them all standing tall, chin up, chest out. Because I am a badass.
After overcoming those hellish experiences I found out that I have a spine disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis along with several other autoimmune diseases. Ones that hurt horribly daily. Some days I can barely move. Some days I'm fine. All days, it hurts. I wouldn't wish it on my biggest enemy. Now, it is during one of my bed-ridden pure pain and agony nights that took me down this path of wreath making. Here it is, are you ready? Some won't understand but those that know, you KNOW. I was laying there, insomnia, pain coursing through my body, mind not shutting off. We have this bill to pay, this work to be done. Did I shut off the stove?! Shoot, I forgot to do laundry. Then in the middle of all of that noise, I heard... "you need to start making wreaths". I had never made one. Didn't think I was crafty enough to do things like that. But the "thought" (more like a demand) was so strong and so I started. I jumped all the way in too. I feel it all the way down to my crippled bones that I was brought to doing this to give myself strength physically as well as mentally. My body hurts less, my bones hurt less, my soul and my heart. It has helped me with mentally healing, physically feeling better...ish, and I started working on a relationship with our wonderful Lord for the first time ever. This is way more than an old lady making crafts. There are no words that can describe what this means to me.
I started making wreaths about a year ago. In 2024. I absolutely love it. I found a piece of that pure joy from my youth. My calm in the chaotic storm of everyday life and responsibilities. Then me, being my normal over the top, go big or go home type self started adding things. Started making candles. Figured out that I could make my own candle vessels from concrete. Figured out I could also make my own figurines from concrete. Now, I want to figure out how to make my own molds as well lol.
Anyways, I'll try to get back on topic... another name for concrete is mud. Pouring concrete has given me the same joy as when I used to play in the mud. Except now, it is therapeutic as well. The Muddy Rose brings both of my therapeutic hobbies together- The tomboy young Jenny's love for mud and the older Jenny's love of making things pretty with flowers and greenery. The rose is a representation of me (middle name is Rose) and being a grandma (grand-daughter's middle name is Rose). When I think of The Muddy Rose, I think about a rose breaking through the concrete. An impossible act but so beautiful. The things I have went through in my life and how it felt so impossible at the time to overcome. This rose broke through the concrete. I push my kids and will also push my grandkids to not allow life struggles to pull them down. We are all warriors. We can overcome anything thrown at us. Stronger than concrete itself.
A little about my stuff:
Candles-The concrete candle vessels are made by hand and some of the scents are custom made as well. Each candle (both concrete and container candles) contains either paraffin soy blend or coconut soy (depends on the candle). The type of wax used is labeled on the candle as well as listed on the product page. We also use the safest concrete sealer as we can. We use both Earth Safe Finishes sealer and Eco Advance concrete sealer to seal coat the concrete vessels. Every piece we make is different and we cannot make them exactly the same. They may also have some imperfections as concrete is impossible to get completely smooth and with no blemishes/ cracks/air bubbles. This is part of what makes concrete candles so cool though. They are all unique little art pieces. Every candle batch is ran through a quality check where one candle per batch is burn/heat tested.
Please make sure you are trimming the wicks, only burning for two hours at a time, keeping things away from lit candles, never putting candle on things that could cause a fire and never leave candle or wax melts unattended. Always remove the dust covers and added decorative pieces (such as included decorative drink umbrellas) before burning candle. To ensure optimal burn level please burn for two hours on the first burn. If you burn for a half an hour and then put it out, it can cause uneven wax.
Candles do cause a significant amount of fires every year. The possibility of a fire happening should not ever be taken lightly. Please follow safety precautions when using any candle.
Wax Melts- All wax melts are made from a high quality paraffin soy blend wax. Please also make sure to follow safety protocols with wax melts. Fragrance oil can be pretty toxic if consumed. Don't eat it or leave it down where kids or pets can get into them. Do not leave burning unattended. Keep your wax melter away from things that can catch on fire.
Wreaths- All of our wreaths are made out of the highest quality material that we can find. We use grapevine wreath forms, hot glue, wired ribbon, floral wire in Jute twine in our pieces. Each piece is different although we strive to make them look as close as possible unless it is a customized piece. We also try to make them as realistic as possible. As with all wreaths, they are not meant to be directly in the elements. They should be kept under a covered porch or inside the house. If they are used outside, please understand that even though we do everything to ensure the highest quality material and production, we can not control if mother nature attacks your wreath and destroys it. Also, there are some colored artificial greenery and floral that can seep color when it is wet. We try not to get this type but occasionally we do use some that it is a possibility. We are not responsible if your wreath drips color on wall, door, you, etc. Hopefully that never happens but just please understand that this is a possibility. We also spray each wreath with a uv waterproof spray but this doesn't give it 100% coverage and protection. Due to us using this spray, wreaths can have a bit of chemical smell so if you are sensitive to these type smells, please let it air out when you first get it. Also, shipping can squish wreaths a bit so you may need to lightly fluff it when removing it from the box.
Door hangers and signs- for the door hangers and signs, we use pretty beefy pine wood rounds and pine slabs, acrylic paints, vinyl, wood stain, D-clips (to hang), jute twine, staples, hot glue, velcro and artificial floral and greenery. We also use three coats of spar urethane as sealant to weatherproof these as much as possible (some signs are not seal coated or only coated with one layer). We want these bad boys to last for years. We cannot guarantee that they will though. Even though we do everything we can to make the door hangers as solid as we can, all door hangers and signs have a possibility of leaking dyes, paint or wood stain if wet. They are meant to be kept under a covered porch or for inside use. If you do use out in the elements, please understand that it is a possibility it could leak things on your door and/or wall.
We are more than happy to do custom orders and accept the challenge as long as it is within our ability. If there is something that you are wanting, whether a sign, candle, figurine, wreath or door hanger, please message us on here or jenny [!at] themuddyrose.com
